About betterday

betterday is a voice-first daily reflection app built around a simple question:

“Was today a good day?”

You speak about your day, betterday turns that reflection into text, helps identify what happened, asks how the day felt, and helps you notice patterns over time.

Depending on how you use the app, betterday can help you:

  • capture what actually happened in your day
  • track mood over time
  • notice how activities and routines relate to how you feel
  • generate weekly reflections and insights
  • see a short Daily Mirror after saving a day

Recording your day

betterday is designed to be a short, focused reflection tool.

How recording works

  • betterday asks for microphone access so you can record your reflection.
  • During recording, the app may use Apple speech recognition to support the live voice-first experience.
  • After recording, your audio is processed to create a transcript and analyze the day.
  • Signed-in daily logging allows one saved entry per day.

Recording length

betterday has a 5-minute recording limit.

This is intentional. We believe the best reflections are usually short and focused:

  • around 1 to 2 minutes is ideal for most days
  • the extra time up to 5 minutes is there so you do not feel rushed

If you regularly feel you need much longer to process your day, we recommend using a longer-form journaling tool. betterday is meant to help you close the loop on the day with clarity, not turn into a long journal session.

What happens at 5 minutes

When you reach the limit, the recording stops automatically. You can then choose to:

  • analyze the day
  • start recording over
  • discard and delete the take

Daily Mirror, Weekly Compass, and reports

Daily Mirror

After you save a day, betterday may offer you a Daily Mirror.

Daily Mirror is a short reflective line generated from:

  • your saved transcript
  • your mood rating for that day

If generated successfully, it is saved with that day and can appear again on your Today view and in your saved session details.

Weekly Compass (Intentions)

You can add personal intentions in:
More > Settings > Weekly Compass (Intentions)

Intentions are the recurring themes, habits, or priorities you want betterday to keep in mind while you reflect. They can appear during recording and may be used to help organize your saved day and longer-term reflections.

Weekly reports

betterday includes reports to help you zoom out and notice patterns across multiple days, including weekly reports and, where available, trial weekly or custom reports.

Reports may include themes such as:

  • what helped your mood
  • what showed up on harder days
  • patterns across activities, routines, and mood

Weekly reports are not available immediately on day one. The app unlocks them after you have logged enough days and, in the regular weekly flow, after the first week has had time to complete.

History, calendar, and saved entries

You can review your saved days inside the app.

Historic recordings

In More > Historic recordings, you can browse past entries and open day details.

A saved day can include:

  • transcript
  • activities
  • skipped activities
  • routines
  • mood
  • Daily Mirror, if available

Calendar day details

You can also open a day from the calendar and review that day’s saved details.

Deleting an entry

You can delete entries from the history list using the iPhone list swipe gesture.

Editing a saved entry

betterday does not currently offer a full in-app flow for editing a saved day after it has been recorded and saved.

Subscription, billing, and restore purchases

betterday uses subscriptions for Pro access.

What Pro is used for

Some features are part of the Pro experience, including:

  • ongoing signed-in daily logging
  • Insights and report generation
  • subscription-managed paid features inside the main app experience

Where the paywall can appear

Depending on what you are doing, the paywall may appear:

  • after signup
  • when starting a signed-in recording
  • when trying to generate Insights

Manage subscription

You can manage your subscription in:
More > Subscription

That screen includes:

  • your current status (Free or Pro)
  • Upgrade
  • Restore Purchases
  • Customer Center

Trials and renewals

If your subscription offer includes a free trial, Betterday may remind you before renewal if notifications are enabled. Exact pricing, trial length, renewal terms, and billing details are shown in the App Store purchase flow.

Notifications

betterday includes optional notification reminders.

You can manage them in:
More > Settings > Notifications

Current notification options include:

  • All Notifications
  • Daily Log Reminder
  • Weekly Report Reminder

Daily reminder

The daily reminder is meant to nudge you only if you have not logged that day.

Weekly reminder

The weekly reminder is used to remind you when a weekly report is pending, including Sunday reminders and a Monday fallback.

Activity detail

You can choose how much detail betterday uses when describing activities in:
More > Settings > Activity detail

Words to recognize

You can add names, projects, places, or other words in:
More > Settings > Words to recognize

These terms are stored locally on your device and help betterday better recognize words that often appear in your reflections.

If notifications are blocked at the iPhone level, betterday will ask you to manage them in iPhone Settings.

Data & privacy (short version)

Your app data is stored using Firebase / Firestore and tied to your account.

betterday uses AI services to:

  • transcribe your recording
  • analyze your day
  • generate features such as Daily Mirror and insights

betterday does not rely on third-party ads or cross-app ad tracking.

Local recording files are used during processing and completed local recording files are removed from the device after a successful save flow.

You can delete your account and associated app data in the app.

For full details, please read the betterday Privacy Policy.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

1. Is my data private?

betterday uses your data to provide the product’s core features: transcription, daily analysis, saved history, Daily Mirror, and insights. We do not use the app to serve third-party ads or track you across other apps.

For full details, please read the Privacy Policy.

2. Do you or anyone else read my entries?

Not as part of normal app use. Your entries are primarily processed automatically to power the app’s features.

In limited cases, we may need to review relevant data or logs to investigate a support issue, abuse report, or serious bug.

3. Why does the app need microphone access and speech recognition?

betterday is a voice-first app.

We ask for microphone access so you can record your reflection. The app also uses speech technology as part of the recording experience and transcript pipeline.

If you deny microphone access, recording will not work.

4. The app is not recording or transcribing my voice

Try this:

  • check microphone permission in iPhone Settings
  • make sure you have an internet connection
  • close and reopen the app
  • restart your iPhone if needed

If it still fails, email [email protected] with details.

5. The AI analysis failed or is very slow

Possible reasons include:

  • weak or unstable internet
  • temporary AI or backend issues
  • a recording that was longer or harder to process

Try this:

  • check your connection
  • try again a little later
  • keep your reflection shorter and more focused

If your day was already saved, Daily Mirror failing does not delete the saved day.

6. What is Daily Mirror?

Daily Mirror is a short reflective output generated after you save a day. It uses your saved transcript and mood rating to create a brief mirror back to you.

If generation succeeds, it is stored with that day.

7. Why is recording limited to 5 minutes?

Because betterday is designed for focused reflection, not long-form journaling.

We think:

  • 1 to 2 minutes is usually the sweet spot
  • 5 minutes gives you enough slack so you do not feel rushed

If you regularly need more time than that to log your day, a journaling app is probably a better fit.

8. How do weekly reports work?

Weekly reports unlock after you have logged enough days. They help you look across multiple days and notice mood, routine, and activity patterns rather than just one day in isolation.

9. What does Pro unlock?

Pro is used for the ongoing full Betterday experience, including signed-in daily logging and Insights/report generation.

10. How do I restore purchases or manage my subscription?

Go to:
More > Subscription

You can:

  • check your status
  • upgrade
  • restore purchases
  • open Customer Center

11. How do I delete my account and all my data?

Go to:
More > Settings > Delete account & data

Deletion is permanent. In some cases, Apple or Google may require you to sign in again before deletion can be completed for security reasons.

If you run into problems, contact [email protected].

12. Can I export my data?

betterday does not currently offer a full in-app export feature.

If you have a specific data request, contact [email protected].

13. Which devices and iOS versions are supported?

betterday currently supports:

  • iPhone
  • iOS 18.4 or later

betterday does not currently support Android.

14. How do I send feedback or request a feature?

You can use:
More > Settings > Send feedback
or email [email protected].

If you are sending a feature request, include what you want to do and why it would matter in your daily use.
